Each year, the WA State Government reviews electricity tariff prices, fees and charges so they better reflect the costs of making and delivering electricity through Western Australia.
This year the WA State Government is not changing the price of the residential A2 and MyPower electricity tariffs. This is part of of a range of COVID-19 support measures for WA households, which means that the unit price and supply charge for these tariff will remain at the 2019 price.
There are changes to business electricity tariffs, MyPower Business and streetlight tariffs. These changes better reflect the cost of generating electricity, maintaining the electricity grid, providing customer services and ensuring we can provide safe, reliable electricity to regional WA. These changes are effective from 1 July 2020.
There are also some changes to Horizon Power’s ancillary fees and charges effective 1 July 2020. Changes to fees and charges are in-line with or below the CPI rate.

Frequently asked questions
For customers of residential tariffs (A2 and MyPower) there will no change to the supply charge or unit (kWh) price, and prices will remain the same.
The WA government announced a ‘price freeze’ on residential electricity prices as part of the WA Government’s range of COVID-19 support measures to help ease the financial burden on WA households this year.
Over a third of our fees and charges won’t be changing. Where there are changes they are in-line or below the CPI rate, with some of our fees going down in price. Where fees have gone up, this is due to an increase in the cost to provide services to Horizon Power. Where they have decreased, we have passed through the savings to you.
All changes in our fees and charges take effect from 1 July 2020.
The Energy Assistance Payment (EAP) remains unchanged as the price of residential electricity tariffs is changing. That means if you’re an eligible concession card holder you’ll still continue to receive the EAP of $305.25 per annum (around $50 per bi-monthly bill).
As part of the WA Government’s COVID-19 support measures, if you have an eligible concession card and it is registered on your account (up to 30 September 2020) then you’ll also have received an additional EAP ‘boost’ payment of $305.25, which was applied as a lump sum.

No, the A2 residential rate is the same as Synergy’s A1 residential tariff even though it costs Horizon Power more to supply electricity to regional customers then we charge for it. We are able to set the A2 rate the same as metro customers due to the a government subsidy of $185 million dollars for this financial year.

It costs Horizon Power more to supply our customers with electricity than what we recover for it. The price changes better reflect the cost of generating electricity, maintaining the electricity grid, providing customer services and providing safe, reliable electricity to regional WA.
The Government subsidy for FY2020-21 is $185 million or around $3,972 per customer connection. This subsidy ensures these customers, regardless of where they live; pay the same price per unit of electricity.
The increase in tariffs is a result of State Government policy to bring the price of electricity more in line with the cost of supplying electricity.
The new electricity tariffs will come into effect on 1 July 2020.
I won’t receive a bill until July but the billing period covers time in June. Will I be charged the new rates for the whole bill?
No - your bill will show separate amounts for the number of days you used electricity at the former tariff rate, and the number of days you used electricity at the new tariff rate and your average daily use figure will be used to calculate the cost of each.
Electricity prices are a policy matter for the WA Government. The WA Government has indicated a preference for tariffs to be more reflective of the cost of supplying electricity and they are reviewed by the State Government on an annual basis.
