Acting Mayor Gloria Jacob congratulated everyone who was nominated for an award and thanked all the sponsors for this year’s community awards.

“Being recognised by your peers and wider community for your achievements and contributions is always wonderful, and the Town is pleased to be able to assist in celebrating our unsung heroes,” she said.

“A big thank you has to go to our award partners- ITOCHU, Rio Tinto Dampier Salt, Horizon Power, Port Hedland Port Authority and McDonald’s, and our supporting partners the North West Telegraph, Spirit Radio, Raw Hire, Department of Sport and Recreation and Department of Communities, and Bullbuck.

“Without them we would not have been able to provide the awards and hold the presentation night for our award nominees and recipients.”

Each of the award recipients received $1000 cash to help them achieve their goals, as well as flowers.

The award recipients will also become a part of local history with their names being added to a community honour board.

The Town is accepting nominations for the 2014 Community Awards and nomination forms can be downloaded from the Town’s website at www.porthedland.wa.gov.au.
