Horizon Power is leading the delivery of renewable energy solutions in remote and regional Western Australia, with installation of the first utility-standard Stand-alone Power System (SPS) in Western Australia’s north.
The SPS has been installed for the Exmouth Golf Club and will provide all of the club’s power requirements, completely removing its connection from the electricity network.
The system generates and stores its own electricity through solar panels and battery energy storage and has a back-up diesel generator. The system will supply continuous power 24 hours a day, regardless of the weather.
Exmouth Golf Club President Neil Haywood said Horizon Power identified their club as an ideal location for the SPS to provide a high penetration of renewable energy for a permanent source of power.
“The system is ideal for our energy supply needs and the club’s members are really excited about the new technology,” Mr Haywood said.
“The SPS will also replace the powerlines and poles that service the club, enhancing the look of our facility and making it more attractive for members and visitors.”
Horizon Power Managing Director Frank Tudor said Horizon Power was striving to be at the forefront of renewable energy alternatives as technology evolves.
”We are actively adopting new solutions to provide customers with more choice and minimise environmental impacts,” Mr Tudor said.
“While SPS units are not connected to the network, our customers continue to receive the same high levels of reliability as those who are, and at no extra cost to the customer.”
Horizon Power is now working with other customers in regional and remote Western Australia to remove poles and wires where this will provide a more efficient and cost-effective solution.
Traditional grid connection will remain critical for most customers however at the remote fringes of our isolated systems, or microgrids, replacing older poles and wires with stand-alone power is becoming more viable.
