Under the Town Reserves Regularisation program, which is funded by the Department of Housing (DoH) and delivered by Horizon Power and DoH contractors, 25 communities have had their electrical networks upgraded and house wiring made safer since its inception in 2005.
More than 150 residents in the three West Kimberley communities of Bayulu (Fitzroy), Mowanjum and Looma (both out of Derby) are now Horizon Power customers following completion of the regularisation program. They are now eligible for electricity rebates and subsidies which are available to all customers who receive a regularised power supply throughout the State.
As part of the program, Horizon Power also delivers education to community residents about the electrical work being undertaken and education about electrical safety, payment for power and energy efficiency.
Horizon Power Managing Director Frank Tudor said the program was important because it had resulted in safer and more reliable power supplies to hundreds of hundreds of residents in Aboriginal communities throughout the Kimberley, Mid-West and Pilbara.
“It’s exciting to see the work completed and new customers on our network,” Mr Tudor said

Regularisation of this community will provide a level of infrastructure that will ensure long term sustainability for the people of Mowanjum, Looma and Bayulu”.
