Leading WA's energy industry to success

A business leader, and oil and gas economics expert who is shaping the energy industry both in Australia and abroad, has been awarded Energy Professional of the Year at the WA Energy Awards.

Horizon Power’s Managing Director Frank Tudor was recognised for his ongoing contribution to the industry as it undergoes unprecedented change.

Recognising this change, Mr Tudor said a strategic review which began in 2012 and transformed the business had been an integral step in the right direction.

“The review completely rebuilt Horizon Power from the ground up,” he said.

Mr Tudor’s unique understanding of the energy industry, coupled with his vision and practical approach, drove the reinvention of the business and reduced its government subsidy by more than $100 million per year – a significant saving for taxpayers – while still meeting all of its targets and customers’ needs.

“From this platform we are well-positioned to look to the future,” Mr Tudor said.

“We are researching and implementing new technology and initiatives that will continue to give our customers choice and control, while allowing us to diversify into exciting new areas of the energy industry.

“I believe we are leading the industry by defining the future, and investing in initiatives that will strengthen our competitive advantage.”

Mr Tudor contributes significantly to the energy sector in Australia and overseas, through the Electricity Networks Association where he serves as a Board and Committee member and as a member of the Australian Electricity Market Operator Expert Panel.

He also contributes on China-related matters, through involvement in the Australia China Council, the Australian National University China in the World Centre and the Australia China Business Council.

The 2017 Western Australian Energy Awards acknowledge the work that is being done to build a world-class energy industry by recognising the Energy Professional of the Year (Individual), Energy Innovation of the Year (Individual or Company) and Young Energy Professional (Individual).
