The Pilbara Underground Power Project (PUPP) has completed works in Bulgarra with all properties now connected to the underground network.
Since recommencing works in Bulgarra 12 months ago, Horizon Power has dismantled 282 power poles, erected close to 150 new streetlights, drilled over 13 kilometres of land to bury almost 30 kilometres of cabling and connected 305 properties to the underground power network.
PUPP Project Manager James Carney said the underground network would provide a safer and more reliable power supply, a dramatically reduced likelihood of power outages as well as brighter and safer streets.
“The ageing overhead electricity infrastructure has been replaced with a new underground power network creating brighter streetlights and open streetscapes for the community, as well as much more reliable power during cyclone seasons” Mr Carney said.
Overhead infrastructure will remain on certain streets between the Karratha CBD, Bulgarra substation and Searipple Village to continue providing power to the Village until the completion of the Karratha CBD in June 2016.
The next areas for completion are the Karratha CBD, Pegs Creek and Roebourne where civil and commissioning works have already commenced.
