Work on Leonora power outage continues

Three hundred and ninety Horizon Power customers in Leonora have had their electricity restored following a severe storm last night.

At 10 am today (10/12) 60 customers were still without power.

Horizon Power Goldfields Esperance Retail and Community Manager Donna Gibson said crews had worked through the night to restore power which had affected 450 customers in Hoover, Rochester, Tower, Otterburn, Kurrajong and Forrest Streets as well as Braemore Road.

“Strong winds and lightning brought down powerlines last night but our crew were quickly on-site to assess the damage and undertake repair work,” Ms Gibson said.

“At about 10 am today six poles, sections of overhead powerlines and underground cables in Otterburn Street were still damaged.”

Ms Gibson said an additional crew had been dispatched from Esperance this morning while additional external support workers were on standby.

“Horizon Power crews are working quickly and safely to restore power as soon as possible,” she said.

“However, because of the extent of the damage and the need to bring in extra crews it is quite possible that power may not be fully restored today.”

Horizon Power will continue to keep affected customers and the community informed as work continues to restore power.

Leonora residents are advised to stay at least 10 metres away from any fallen powerlines and report them to Horizon Power’s fault and emergency line on 13 23 51.
